Corridor 5C Motorway section opening ceremony

September 2014

Edin Begovic and members of the Roughton project team joined the Chairman of the Council of Ministers and many other ministers on the 16th September to attend the opening ceremony of the Pocitelj – Bijaca section of the Corridor 5C Motorway.

This important 9km section of the motorway includes overpasses, underpasses, interchanges, a toll station, maintenance and control centre, bridges, a viaduct and a tunnel.

Roughton provided full construction supervision services, in the role of Engineer for two Works Contracts. The supervision team consisted of sixteen staff on site, all of whom ensured that the works were executed in accordance with the expected standards and timescales and to the budget.

The ceremony attracted plenty of press coverage as would be expected for a major infrastructure project. Corridor 5C is a pan-European corridor which connects Budapest in Hungary with port Ploce, on the Adriatic coast in Croatia. Almost half of it passes through Bosnia & Herzegovina. It is expected that the remainder of the B&H section will be completed by 2020.

Edin Begovic is Roughton’s Director and Regional Manager for Eastern Europe. Based in Sarajevo, he is currently directing between 10 and 15 other infrastructure and construction supervision projects across the region, including: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Romania and Turkey.
