Roughton attends ‘flagging-off’ ceremony in Lagos

August 2013

Flagging-Off

On July 25th 2013 the Managing Director of Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engr. Adeseyi Sijuwade, addressed a distinguished audience at the ceremonial ‘flagging-off’ of the third Lagos-Kano–Lagos intercity passenger train service at Ebute Metta Junction Station (EBJ), Alabomeji, Lagos.

This important milestone in the rehabilitation of Nigeria’s railway network, will encourage social integration, enhance inter-cultural relationships and support small scale trading activities within the towns and villages along the track corridors. Property and housing development will be boosted and the nation’s road network will take some relief. It is believed that a drastic reduction in road traffic will be one of the effects, benefitting both the environment and travellers/commuters.

The improved transport links offer affordable and efficient freight options to railway clients such as: Flour Mills, Lafarge Cement, Dangote Cement, Oando, Total, Sahara Energy, A-Z Oil and Inland Container Limited, all of whom had representatives present for the flagging-off.

This is a good example of the importance Roughton International places on projects that inject major socio-economic improvements to a region, through improved infrastructure and the transference of knowledge and technologies to areas prepared to invest in their own future growth.

Dignitaries present at the event to witness the flagging off of the train service included The Chairman and various members of the NRC Board, the Commissioner of Police, Railway Command, NRC Director , CEOs of Government and non-Governmental organisations, MD CCECC, MD Costain (West Africa), Chief Resident Engineer Roughton International, invited special guests, President of the Senior Staff Association of NRC, President General of Nigeria Union of Railway workers, and the Press.
