Karaula Tunnel – Opening Ceremony 27th September 2016
In a joint venture arrangement with IPSA Institut, Roughton lead the provision of consulting services for the construction supervision of the 902m long Karaula Tunnel and approximately 2.2km of road alignment either end of the tunnel, for client JP Ceste FBiH.
The tunnel forms part of the newly constructed 4,246m section of road on the arterial M-18 between Kladanj and Podpaklenik, which not only shortens the journey by almost 3km, but also significantly improves traveller safety.
It is the most up to date tunnel in Bosnia and Herzegovina, equipped with video-surveillance, changeable signalisation, tunnel ventilation and a 460m long evacuation tunnel.
The two year project, part funded by the European Investment Bank, was overseen by Edin Begovic, Director of Roughton International Ltd and Regional Manager for Eastern Europe, based in Sarajevo.
