Rreshen - Kalimash motorway, Albania

The planned 171 km long route between Durres and Morine connects Albania's main port of Durres with Kosovo and the rest of South Balkans. The General Roads Directorate has awarded a contract for the fast track construction of the project, two contracts for the design of the project and a contract for the construction supervision. For the 61 km long Rreshen - Kalimash section, full dual carriageway motorway profile is constructed, including a 5.5km long dual tube tunnel at Tirra. Other works include construction of 29 bridges totalling 4.4 km and 6.4 km of retaining walls.

Most of the works were constructed in a very difficult mountainous terrain in Northern Albania, involving over 3,800 labour and engineering staff on site.

The overall objective of this assignment is to support the General Road Directorate in the management of the project to ensure the timely and cost efficient implementation. The primary role of the consultant is to maintain a constant presence in the GRD during the life of the assignment to provide Project Management Services including:

  • support in monitoring the contract with the Contractor
  • support in management of the design consultants, the independent Engineer and the interfaces among the contract parties
  • support in managing the Employers consents
  • informing the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Telecommunications on the progress
  • preparing to the extent necessary draft Council of Minister decisions related with project execution
