Rehabilitation of Meerzorg - Albina Highway, Suriname

Client: Inter-American Development Bank

A project to rehabilitate 140km of national highway, linking the capital Paramaribo to French Guiana in the East. A feasibility study was carried out and the proposed road rehabilitation was jointly funded by the Inter-American Development Bank, European Commission and Agence Francaise de Developpement, in three separate sections. The project involved reconstruction of the pavement and rehabilitation of several bridges in order to improve the transportation quality, capacity and road safety.

Roughton carried out the detailed design for the 140km national road rehabilitation, including the following:

  • Topographical survey
  • Geotechnical survey
  • Materials and pavement surveys
  • Bridge, culvert and other structural inspections
  • Hydrological, hydraulic and drainage investigations
  • Environmental and social management plan
  • Public consultation
  • Tender documentation
  • Updating the HDM4 economic analysis
  • Preparing terms of reference for Supervision of the Works
