Underground platform end barrier and train stopping markers, UK

Client: Dyer and Butler for London Underground Ltd

As part of London Underground’s Sub?Surface Railway Upgrade Programme (SUP) new 7-car S-Stock trains will be introduced onto the Circle and District Lines of the Sub-Surface Railway (SSR) network.

Modifications to existing station infrastructure are required to accommodate the new longer train stock. This project scope consists of platform end barrier works and installation of Train Stopping Markers.

Train Stopping Markers indicate to the train operator where to stop the train. Platform End Barriers separate passenger areas from non-passenger areas on platforms. They are designed for crowd loading.

Roughton was employed by Dyer and Butler under an NEC3 Design and Build contract.

The works were located at seven District Line stations from Becontree to Upminster. At these seven sites, there were nineteen separate work sites. Our scope consisted of the following:

  • Topographical surveys
  • Lux levels surveys
  • Photographic survey
  • Production of survey reports for each site
  • Conceptual and detailed design for platform end barrier, train stopping markers and associated foundations
