The main project comprised the rehabilitation of the heavily trafficked West carriageway of the dual interstate highway. The existing pavement was very distressed and deformed and appropriate pavement structure rehabilitation was required.

Roughton provided specialist services to undertake the following:

• Survey and evaluate the existing pavement
• Determine available construction materials - the analysis gave upgrading requirements from overlay to reconstruction and sand-bitumen was recommended as a cost-effective material where substantial pavement depths were needed
• Design the new pavement structure
