Social investigation and pavement monitoring, Lao PDR

Client: Department for International Development

This was a research project to monitor the condition of trial pavements, constructed under SEACAP, and to bring that information into the AFCAP programme. Social investigations to establish the opinions of the rural communities living along the roads in question were also required.

Roughton conducted surveys to establish the deterioration of the different pavement types against the base line surveys carried out five years earlier. The following pavement condition surveys were undertaken, in addition to the social investigation:

  • Roughness
  • Profile
  • Photographic
  • Visual
  • Rut depth
